Effectiveness: Getting the Right Things Done

Roadmap Step Nine

Organizational Health

Organizational Health: The Ultimate Transformation

"The single greatest advantage any company can achieve is organizational health. Yet it is ignored by most leaders even though it is simple, free, and available to any anyone who wants it.” –Patrick Lencioni

This is the premise of Patrick Lencioni's national best-seller, The Advantage: Why Organizational Health Trumps Everything Else in Business

Lencioni focuses on how to build organizational health by implementing Four Disciplines:

Discipline 1: Build a Cohesive Leadership Team

The Five Behavioral Principles to Build a Cohesive Team

Behavior 1: Building Trust

Behavior 2: Mastering Conflict

Behavior 3: Achieving Commitment

Behavior 4: Embracing Accountability

Behavior 5: Focusing on Results

Discipline 2: Create Clarity

Six Critical Questions

Leaders must agree on the answers to the following six questions to assure alignment:

1.           Why do we exist?

2.           How do we behave?

3.           What do we do?

4.           How will we succeed?

5.           What is most important right now?

6.           Who must do what?

Discipline 3: Over Communicate Clarity

•             Leaders and team members consistently communicate the core values.

•             Leaders and team members consistently repeat the organization's reason for being.

•             The strategy is regularly communicated and reinforced.

•             Objectives and plans are consistently reviewed and discussed.

•             Alignment is continually reinforced through communication and behavior.

Discipline 4: Reinforce Clarity

•             Everyone has a clear understanding of the organization's vision and goals.

•             Clear objectives are set for the team and individuals.

•             Priorities are clearly defined and communicated.

•             Make Sure Roles and Responsibilities Are Clear:

•             Each team member understands their role and responsibilities.

•             Clear metrics are in place to measure progress and success.

Implementing these disciplines can help organizations build a strong foundation of organizational health,

leading to improved performance and long-term success.

These disciplines are interdependent and need to be continually reinforced to maintain organizational health.
